Lions Charities

In 1992 San Angelo Lions Charities was chartered and is now an approved IRS 501c(3) corporation, capable of receiving large or small tax-deductable donations for the benefit of all local Lions Clubs. It's mission is to help meet the vital needs of the Concho Valley with particular emphasis on sight conservation, especially children.

We have a VISION SCREENING TEAM that will travel within about a 100 mile radius and do vision screenings in public schools, day care centers, private schools, churches or anywhere a call is received from that requests vision screening for children. In 2022 we screened over 3200 children from September thru December. Can we assist your facility?

San Angelo Lions Charities is also responsible for the annual pancake breakfasts which are our main fundraisers, plus, the CYCLES FOR LIFE for handicapped or mentally challenged persons offered free to the public.

Eyeglass Recycling Center

The Eyeglass Recycling Center is  operated by volunteer Lions. We repair glasses when we can. We collect glasses from local merchants and all over Texas to be sorted, washed, read, bagged, boxed and ready to ship all over the world thru the Texas Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center in Midland.

We are here to help those in need of assistance with Vision problems. NO CHILD is turned away. A child, 17 yrs of age or younger (or still in high school) will be offered free exams and glasses. Adults (18 and older) must fill out a questionnaire providing income and expense information to see if they qualify for assistance.

We are funded by public donations, by our eight (8) local Lions Clubs and fundraisers.

For more information and/ or assistance, call (325)227-4350 Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9am-1pm and Thursdays from Noon-3pm.

Close WHO ARE THE LIONS?

Lions have been helping less fortunate people for over 100 years ... since July 1917.

Lions are men and women dedicated to serving those in need, in our community, our state, our Country and our World.

In 1917, Melvin Jones, a Chicago businessman, encouraged his club, the Chicago Business Circle, to go beyond promoting themselves and good business practices - to promoting and helping others less fortunate. Thus, the beginning of the Association of Lions Clubs, later to become the internationally known International Association of Lions Club.

LIONS help those that cannot help themselves.

There are currently more than 14 million men and women members in more than 43,000 clubs in approximately 186 countries .... WE ARE DIFFERENT IN MANY WAYS, but share a common belief - a community is what we and others like us make it.

We Serve!

Close WHAT DO LIONS DO?

It's Really Very Simple ... WE SERVE!

As volunteers we work to make things better for others in our community. Perhaps the single event having the greatest impact on the association's service commitment occurred in 1925, when Helen Keller, born blind and deaf ... addressed the Lions at the International Convention in Cedar Point, Ohio. It was there that she challenged the Lions to become "Knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness".

Today our primary focus is still on the blind and visually impaired. Lions Charities provides FREE eye screening for over 1500 local kids ages 6 months to 6 years. FREE eye exams and glasses for children who have a need... glaucoma medication for others.

Where there's a need...there's a Lion!

As Lions we are strongly committed to the young and strive to help people with special needs; the veteran, the elderly and the less fortunate.

San Angelo Lions Clubs
There are eight (8) individual clubs in San Angelo. Each is unique and operates independently, but all fall under the Lions Clubs International Code of Ethics and By-Laws.  There are large clubs of 90 or more members and smaller clubs with less than 20 members. Lions clubs that meet weekly, monthly or twice a month, some meet during the day, others meet in the evening. ALL SERVE OTHERS LESS FORTUNATE THAN THEMSELVES! If you would like to give back to your community, "do it" as a LION READ ON .... We Serve!
